Toby Miller is an Indiana based drummer

Midwest-born, Southern-raised, currently based in Indiana. With a background that spans popular music, drum corps, pit orchestra, big band, and the avant-garde, he brings a deep pedagogical foundation and his wide southern beat to daring, honest improvisation across genres.

Toby has been fortunate to work with and study under artists such as Ted Poor (Marcus Mumford, Chris Thile), Cuong Vu (Pat Metheny, David Bowie), Steve Rodby (Pat Metheny, Michael Brecker), Joel Spencer (Joe Henderson, Clark Terry), and Kassa Overall (award winning drummer, producer, and rapper). In addition to his university education, Toby also spent his college years touring the country in World Class competitive drum corps Spirit of Atlanta and The Cavaliers on the DCI circuit.

His current project, Real Fake Plants, blends the indie and alternative influences of his youth with original composition and improvisation. The band debuted in Seattle in 2024, opening for the Kris Davis Trio, and was recently featured at the 2025 Taste of Tippecanoe street festival.
